5 spontaneous things to do this weekend near Perth
Top weekend activities that will get you out and about
If you’re ready to get out of your comfort zone and have a bit of fun, we’ve got an epic list of things to do this weekend for everyone in or near Perth.
It’s easy to get stuck in a life rut, especially if you work 9-5. You know, when you do the same ol’, same ol’ every day and every weekend. It gets a bit boring and mundane, doesn’t it?
Spontaneity may not be everyone’s cup of tea but when life needs a shake-up, forcing yourself to jump out of your comfort zone is a great way to mix things up.
We’ve found 5 things to do this weekend that will get you out of the house and living life. There are choices for the beer lovers, fitness fans, and adrenaline junkies so get amongst it.
Drink craft beer like a boss in Margaret River
There’s nothing sandgropers (that’s people from Western Australia, if you don’t know) love more than a nice cold beer. Fremantle is well-known as the birthplace of craft beer so an unplanned day trip to Freo is always a good idea. Fremantle may be the daddy of craft beer but Margaret River and the Swan Valley are both making frothy names for themselves. In Margs, we love Bushshack Brewery and Bootleg, not only for their fine ales but also their gorgeous (and completely different to each other) laid-back environments. In the Swan, Feral Brewery is the go for beer drinkers who like their brews a little wild (and hoppy).
Tip: Let someone else do the driving. There are plenty of beer tours around the Swan Valley and Margaret River.
Ride around Rottnest Island
The perfect way to de-stress and getaway from it all, is an impromptu trip to Perth’s holiday island, Rottnest. There are no cars on the island so a scenic way to get around is by bicycle. Wear your swimmers, take a towel and a picnic lunch and make your way around the island stopping into the many beaches and bays along the way. Take a break and rest your legs on the white sands and cool off in the crystal-clear water. Rotto is so beautiful, you may want to make this a regular weekend trip.
Tip: Pre-book a bike with your ferry ticket to save time queueing up at the onshore bike shop.
Sand blast down a dune in Lancelin
If you like a bit of wind in your hair and sand in your undies, head to Lancelin, a sleepy little seaside town about 128 kilometres north of Perth city. The windswept town is home to a fun weekend activity that will make you feel like a kid again: sand-boarding. Hire a board at Have A Chat when you arrive to town and prepare for spills, thrills and giggles as you zoom down the sea of sand.
Tip: Find out how to get there here.
Make a date with Mother Nature in the Perth Hills
A great way to escape the couch potato blues is a hike in the hills. There are heaps of walking trails around Perth to suit just about everyone. A day walking new territory, especially if it’s not your norm, is a fantastic way to re-connect with yourself, and with nature itself.
Tip: Eagle View Walk in John Forrest National Park is a prefect half-day hike.
Jump from a perfectly good airplane over Rottnest Island
Did you think we’d leave skydiving off this list? Fat chance. Jumping from an airplane is the best to leave your inhibitions behind and do something exciting this weekend. Of course, we’re bias. We know. But come on, going for a skydive is a pretty rad and unconventional thing to do on your weekend off. And a trip from Perth to Rottnest Island makes for an entire weekend of fun and games. And while you’re on the island, you could try your hand at the bike riding we mentioned near the beginning of this post.
Tip: Skydiving is more fun when you share the experience with a friend.
Woo-hoo, celebrate the weekend with awesomeness. We hope these weekend things to do encourages you to be spontaneous, pushes your boundaries and gets you out there loving life.
