There are plenty of reasons to head to Rotto in winter.
 Looking for what’s happening on Rottnest Island over the next few months? You may think there’s not many things to do in winter, but the truth is, most summer activities are available year-round. A trip to Rottnest Island is a great escape from city life, whether you live in Perth, Singapore, or Sydney. And remember, June, July and August offer quieter stays at more affordable prices.

Goodlife Running Festival
 Get in the race at the Goodlife Running Festival on Sunday, June 16. There are four running events to choose from: Runfun Travel Marathon 42km, Running Warehouse Half Marathon 21km, Sealink Sprint 10km, and the Simmos Quokka Dash 5km (will there be ice cream at the finish line?).

There are entry fees involved for all races, but kids 4 and under may enter the Quokka Dash free. Registered participants in the other races may also run this 5km race for free. Otherwise, it’s $5 to enter.

Not only will this Western Australia Marathon Club event do good for your body, mind and spirit, but all proceeds help to support the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

WA School Holidays
 School’s out in Western Australia from July 6 – 22 so if Rottnest will be busy in July, it will be during this time. Look for ‘Kids Travel Free’ offers from Rottnest Fast Ferries and Sealink Rottnest Island. As always, members of Rottnest Express’s kids’ Quokka Club travel free.

Plastic Free July
Although there are no specific winter events in July, the island does participant in Plastic Free July! This annual eco-challenge aims to get people thinking about just how much plastic we all use and reduce it by “choose to refuse” single-use plastic items.

NAIDOC Week
Starting July 7, is NAIDOC Week, an Australia-wide celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Look for events on Rottnest Island and in Perth that honour the history, culture and many achievements of Australia’s indigenous people.

Rottnest Cup
Tee up a weekend away to the island over August 16 -18 for the Rottnest Cup – a much-anticipated annual golf event at Rottnest Country Club. The tournament is open to members of the Rottnest Island Golf Club, which has been in play since 1961.
